RANCHI/CHATRA: The 17-year-old acid attack victim was airlifted to AIIMS, New Delhi on Wednesday, a day after chief minister Hemant Soren directed the district authorities in this regard.
The girl was first taken to Birsa Munda International airport from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in an ambulance, from there she was airlifted. Ranchi civil surgeon Dr Vinod Kumar and a few policemen accompanied the victim in the ambulance.
The victim, who hails from Chatra, had been undergoing treatment at Rims since August 7, two days after she was attacked by a vicenarian man in her locality. The victim had allegedly spurned his overtures, which led to the attack. The accused has been arrested.
Earlier in the day, BJP leader and former CM Babulal Marandi met the victim at Rims. "I am happy that the state government woke up from its deep slumber and arranged for shifting the girl to New Delhi for better treatment. I pray that she recovers soon," Marandi said.
Meanwhile, the Chatra administration handed over a cheque of Rs 1 lakh to the family as interim relief on Tuesday night. On Monday, Soren had announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to her kin.
